Skagit River January 2011
January is a great time to visit the Skagit River to look for Bald Eagles. We waited for some nice weather and took off for four nights. We camped overnight at Rasar State Park near Concrete, WA. Although it rained most of the night, the weather in the morning was awesome. We headed up river to county park where we linked up with a river rafting tour and later a talk by the eagle experts from the local raptor rehabilitation center. The next day we went back down river to the Skagit River valley looking for trumpeter swans and snow geese. We found many eagles and some great blue herons, and lots of hawks. The highlight of the day was finding a ring-necked pheasant along side the road.
